The Giralda is the most emblematic monument of Seville, built in the 12th century, was the minaret of the old mosque of the city and nowadays is the highest point of all Seville. The Cathedral is the Gothic Christian Cathedral with major surface of the world and according to the tradition, the construction began in 1401 although there does not exist documentary evidence of the beginning of work until 1433 and was realized on the site that remained after the demolition of the ancient Mosque. The Royal Alcazar is a palatial complex of buildings surrounded by ancient walls in which gardens stand its terraces and fountains. The Archivo de Indias is one of the most important documentary centers that exist on the discovery and conquest of the New World. These monuments was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1987.Very important is also the Plaza of Spain, located in the majestic Maria Luisa Park dating from the first Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929. The Golden Tower of Arabic origin (13th century), located on the banks of the Guadalquivir was also part of the ancient walls.
